In order for San Ramon Valley High to achieve another deep run in the 2011 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) basketball tournament, the team will need another big season from forward Mark Tollefsen. During the summer, Tollefsen is working on improving his lateral quickness and ball-handling skills to be an even bigger impact to the Wolves' success.
At 6-foot-9 and 175 pounds, Tollefsen possesses an accurate perimeter game and is a slasher to the paint. He compares his game to Reggie Miller, the former Riverside Polytechnic High and UCLA Bruin great. Since playing his first organized game as a seven year old, Tollefsen considers his basketball strengths to be his perimeter game, his rebounding tenacity, and his ability to finish strong in the paint.
On the recruiting front, Tollefsen has received phone calls from the Pacific, Santa Clara, San Jose State, and UC Davis. He has not received any scholarships offers nor has he taken any official visits. Tollefsen has made an unofficial visit to SCU, which is his early favorite due to the consistent email communication with his SCU recruiting contact.
Tollefsen prefers to play for a college program that has a fast pace tempo and quick style of play. He wants to stay in California and enroll at a coastal, sunny campus. As a result, he plans to expand his search to some of the Southern Californian college programs. However, he is open to playing in a power conference like the Pac 10.
From an academic point of view, Tollefsen has a 3.0 GPA and has not taken any of the standardized tests. He is consulting his parents on a college major but considers History to be his best high school subject.
Nicknamed "Tolly" as a combination of his last name and his height, Tollefsen has a quiet personality and says that he does not "warm up" to an individual until he gets to know them. If Tollefsen's performance on the courts continues its upward trajectory, more college scouts will be "warming up" to getting to know this prospect.
