Article 121: What's new in Amir's world

January 12, 2011

NCP last spoke to The King's Academy basketball and football star, Amir Carlisle, in October 2010. A lot has happened to the Stanford commit since then. The football season ended for his Knights and as the No. 3 rated 2011 football prospect by NorCalPreps.com, Carlisle was the only Northern California prospect to be invited to the Under Armour All-America Game at Tropicana Field in Florida during the first week of January.

The 5-foot-10 and 181 pound running back was a critical part of the Knights 6-5 season that ended with a first round playoff loss to Carmel 50-21. Carlisle rushed for 2110 yards on 220 carries for 25 touchdowns and also had 231 receiving yards on 12 receptions for 3 touchdowns. He rushed for over 100 yards in all but one game for the season.

Carlisle says about his senior season, "I believe the season went well, though we did not make it to our desired destination, the championship. We fought hard and never gave up. We gave it our all, and you cannot complain with that. Personally, I believe the season went pretty well. I attribute my success to God and the guy's upfront. They did a great job."

His eye opening rushing numbers did not go unnoticed as he was selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. Carlisle says about the experience, "The Under Armour game was a once in a lifetime experience. The practices were very competitive, yet fun. I really enjoyed competing against the best. It helped me gauge where my level of play, and things I need to improve. The experience itself really excited me for college football. There were many great players."

While Carlisle was in St. Petersburg, Stanford was playing 270 miles away in Miami in the Orange Bowl. The Cardinal dominated Virginia Tech in winning 40-12 and will finish in the top 5 for the first time since 1940. Whenever success comes to a program, that program will often lose key pieces. For Stanford, head coach Jim Harbaugh will leave for the San Francisco 49ers but starting quarterback Andrew Luck will return.

Rivals.com has Stanford's current class as the 12th best recruiting class. The Cardinal have nine 4-star prospects in this class with Carlisle as the highest rated recruit. With Luck returning, the possibility of playing with a future first round NFL pick should be enticing to anyone planning to go to Stanford. Ironically, Carlisle's father is the current Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 49ers.

Carlisle is scheduled to make his final decision on January 15. After the recruiting madness is over, he will continue playing basketball for his Knights. Carlisle says about the basketball team, "We have a great team this year, and hopefully we'll have some hardware to show for it at the end of the season. I do not plan on playing basketball in college."

For his last semester at King's Academy, Carlisle does not plan to have a case of senioritis. He has a challenging academic and athletic schedule for his last semester. His summer plans are to enroll and start college right after graduation. Look for Carlisle on the college gridiron next year. And look for his final college decision on Jan 15 as to the gridiron's location.
