Article 23: Adams - The Ultimate Weapon

August 9, 2010

Inderkum High of the Tri-County Athletic League finished last season 13-1 but lost 16-12 in the Sac-Joaquin Section (SJS) Division III finals to Del Campo. A big reason for the Tigers' success is combo running back and cornerback/safety, Jordan Adams. Last year, Adams rushed for 725 yards with an 8.74 average that resulted in nine touchdowns. On the defensive side, he put up equally impressive numbers by leading the team with twelve sacks and adding on 88 tackles.

At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, Adams has been playing football since he was five years old and has been the varsity starter since his junior year. Adams can run 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash, can squat 330 pounds, and has a vertical of 30 inches. He models his game after St. Louis Ram Steven Jackson because of his aggressive running style and will not die attitude. On defense, he models his game after NFL All-Pro Safety Brian Dawkins because Adams can deliver punishing hits.

Adams describes Inderkum's offensive scheme to be a Wing-T formation. This formation allows the Tigers to utilize three backs with various skills. For example, Inderkum has a speed back, power back, and slasher back. The formation also allows them to use deception with all the faking, pulling, and trapping. The defense is a cover-2 scheme that requires two deep safeties with various blitz packages for the outside linebackers. When asked about Adams' strengths, Inderkum Coach Terren Stark says, "Hard worker athletically and academically. Respectful of peers, coaches, teachers
and community members. Leader on the field, extremely hard hitter and tough runner with speed. Division 1 football player."

During his high school summers, Adams has high school team practices and has attended summer football camps. This Tiger has attended summer camps that include FBU, National Underclassmen, Stanford Nike Camp, UC Davis skills camp, and the Under Armour combine. During this summer, he has worked on his footwork as well as his single coverage. His team goal is to go undefeated, win a section championship, and play for the state title. When asked about Adams' versatility, Coach Stark says, "Will be one of the best players in Sacramento this season. Can play corner, safety, strong safety and outside/inside LB on defense. He is a RB offensively."

Adams has no geographic restrictions in his college destination. The programs that have initiated contact with him include Boise State (Jeff Choate), Colorado (Todd Ritter), Colorado State (Larry Lewis), Fresno State, Oregon State (Jay Locey), San Jose State (Tim Landis), Syracuse, UNLV, Washington (Jeff Mills), and Washington State. Most of these programs are recruiting him as a cornerback or safety. Adams would prefer to play safety in college.

He has not received any offers and has not made any official visits. His early favorites are Boise State, Oregon State, and Washington because these schools have strong academic programs along with solid graduation rates. In addition during the past ten years, these schools have many alumni playing football on Sundays.

Adams has a 2.90 GPA and has not received his latest SAT scores. He does not know what he wants to major in college yet but his best subjects are History and Mathematics. His teammates nicknamed him "The Ultimate Weapon" due to his dual skills. If Adams plays up to his potential, look for Inderkum to go far into season and for Adams at the NCAA level.
