David Andoh has been on the move for the most part of his early life. His parents are originally from Ghana but moved to Quebec due to his father's occupation. After his three brothers and he were born in Canada, the family has made stops in Maryland, Arizona, and California. Andoh arrived to the San Francisco Bay Area two weeks before the start of 7th grade.
He played sparingly during his freshman year at Archbishop Mitty. Due to personal reasons, he transferred from Mitty to Santa Teresa High at the beginning of his sophomore year. Due to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) rules, he had to sit out his sophomore year for basketball since he transferred after the start of the sophomore year. During this past summer, he made the decision to transfer to the Saint Mary's College High School Panthers in the Bay Shore League (BSAL). Despite that, Andoh has the physical attributes and has performed well in summer events to justify being the No. 3 player in the NorCalPreps 2012 boys basketball ranking.
At 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, Andoh considers himself to be a finesse slasher who can also battle down low but will primarily play either forward position. He can score from many different areas and ways on the floor. When asked whose game he models his after, Andoh compares himself to former NBA Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant because, "He is very competitive, relentless, and a great scorer. He also loves to win and he is a constantly improving slasher type who can get to the basket with ease."
Since joining the Panthers, Andoh has practiced with the team and played in the Marin Catholic and Cal Berkeley team camps. Panthers' Coach Manny Nodar says, "David is athletic for a guy his size. He is very skilled on the perimeter and has the ability to also be an excellent post player. He can handle the ball along with the ability to extend the floor. He is a wing player in the making. I am very excited about coaching David. He will fit in great in the Panther system."
During this summer, this Panther has been working out and playing in tournaments with his Belmont Shores (Long Beach) and Drew Gooden Soldiers club teams. He averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists with Belmont Shores over twenty games. During any game, Andoh will try to study his opponent's defensive weakness to exploit them. In addition, he considers that he has an effective euro step, step that the player performs around a defender while attacking the basket. During his sophomore transfer year and during summers, he works on his shooting, ball handling, passing, explosiveness, and positioning to be a more complete player.
Andoh comes across as being a selfless person as his individual goal is to be the best teammate possible and to make his teammates better as he enjoys seeing others succeed in their dreams. He will have that opportunity for the Panthers as he will team up with Glenn Baral and Isiah Taylor, No. 15 and No. 28 players in the NorCalPreps 2012 boys basketball respectively, as they try to make a return trip to the state title game.
Despite only going into his junior year, many colleges have dreams of landing this low post player in two years. Cal, Cal Poly, Colorado, Detroit, LSU, Oregon State, Portland, Santa Clara, Texas, Utah, and Washington State have him programmed in their cell phones. Colorado and Santa Clara have offers extended to him. This Panther plans to make an unofficial visit to Utah in September. Since it is early for him, he has no favorites and is trying to cultivate his relationships with coaches before narrowing his list of options. Coach Nodar says, "David is a D 1 player. He is a wing at the next level with the potential to be very good. He has the potential to be more than a role player at the college level. In other words, he could become a key player for a college program."
Andoh wants to attend a prestigious program where he can develop as a player. This Panther does not have any current geographic restrictions. Academically, Andoh has a 3.10 GPA and has not taken the SATs yet. He would like to be a Computer Scientist or Engineer as his favorite subjects are Math and English. Andoh's father played semi-professional soccer back in Ghana while his older brother, Enoch, is currently a post player for Bucknell. The next stop for this Panther is Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley for the next two years. After that, he will continue his globe trekking at the NCAA level.
