On the football field, Cedric Anderson II is a player who cannot be missed for a few reasons. The former Stockton Lincoln High star who transferred to Edison for his senior year due to family reasons is a playmaker on offense who can play both quarterback and wide receiver. On the defensive side, Anderson will get noticed by opposing receivers in the Tri-City Athletic League (TCAL) as he is a hard-hitting safety and lock down defensive back. Finally, he is easy on the eyes as his teammates have nicknamed him, "Pretty Toney."
College coaches have definitely been attracted to the 6-foot, 170 pound football star who can run 4.68 seconds in the 40-yard dash, perform the shuttle in 4.32 seconds, bench 225 pounds, jump a 27 inch vertical, and throw a football 70 yards downfield. During his junior year at Lincoln, Anderson played both quarterback and wide receiver. He transitioned to the QB role for the last three games of the season. As a result, he helped lead Lincoln to an 8-3 record but lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Anderson started playing organized football when he was seven years old. Despite being able to play multiple positions well on both sides of the ball, he wants to be a quarterback at the college level. Edison plans to employ the "Wildcat" and option formations on offense to take advantage of Anderson's athletic ability to make plays.
Anderson considers his football strengths to be his arm strength, accuracy when throwing on the run, running downfield with vision, and soft hands to pull in the difficult passes. This Viking compares his game to that of Michael Vick and Terrelle Pryor because he is a mobile, left handed quarterback and a leader who is athletic and plays multiple positions.
During summers, Anderson hones his football skills through his high school team practices and summer camps. He has attended several camps including All American Livermore, Cal, FBU Sacramento, Fresno State, Nike Camp at Stanford, Rivals Top Prospect Oklahoma, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA Above and Beyond, Ultimate 100 LA, Under Armour LA, and USC Rising Stars USC Skills. This summer, he has been working on his footwork and mechanics, his route running, getting off the ball and defensive back techniques such as bumping, jamming, and back peddling.
An individual goal for his senior year is to be league MVP while his team goal is to win the section title.
With his abundant skill set, Anderson has received an abundance of attention from colleges. The growing list of schools that have contacted him includes Arizona State, Boise State, Fresno State, Idaho State, Iowa, Nevada, North Carolina A&T, North Dakota, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Stanford, Utah, UTEP, Washington State, Western Illinois, and Vanderbilt.
Anderson made an unofficial visit to Sacramento State in 2009 and was invited to Dartmouth, Northwestern, Occidental, Princeton, UCLA, and Washington State for junior day and bowl practices. UTEP has a pending offer to him that is contingent on his academics and game evaluations. His current top three schools are Fresno State, San Diego State, and UTEP due to the relationship that he has with the coaches and the potential playing time at the next level.
Anderson has a 2.9 GPA and is awaiting his SAT scores. His favorite school subject is History as he wants a college that provides educational resources and support services.
He prefers to be close to home as he is family oriented but will not rule out any program in the country. Pretty Toney's only geographical preference is somewhere that he can continue working on his tan. Seriously for the football program, he wants to attend a competitive football program that is well respected and provides opportunities to play professional football.
If you do not see Anderson this upcoming season in Stockton, keep your eye open for him at the NCAA level during the Fall of 2011.
