Opposing teams that take the field against James Logan this upcoming season need to be wary of running across the middle of the field. The reason is Albert Bell, aka "HellzBellz," who will be roaming the area with potentially punishing hits as both a linebacker and safety. In addition, Bell also does double duty on the offensive side where he lines up both as a full back and wide receiver. The 6-foot, 190 pound senior led the James Logan Colts of the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) to an 8-4 record and into the first round of the league playoffs last year where the team lost to Foothill of Pleasanton.
The multi-skilled Bell has been playing organized football since he was seven years old and can now run 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash, can bench press 245 pounds, and can squat 375 pounds. For his senior season, he plans to lineup primarily as a safety on the defensive side. He compares his game to the former University of Miami star, Sean Taylor, because Bell possesses quickness and strength that allows him to make big hits. In addition, he is comfortable reading offenses.
Logan has taken full advantage of Bell's athleticism on both sides of the ball. This Colt plays both linebacker and safety as he has the speed and size to play either position. Similarly on the offensive side, he lines up at fullback and wide receiver. Bell considers his best football skill to be reading opposing quarterback and offensive line schemes. His defense runs a 4-3 formation that relies on a lot of communication from each other.
During this summer, Bell's high school team has had regular 7 on 7 practices. In addition, Bell has attended the All American and Fresno State camps as he has been working on his speed and strength. Bell's individual goals for his senior year includes getting more interceptions, forcing more fumbles, making more tackles, blocking better, and being a better pass catcher. As a team, he wants James Logan HS to make a playoff run and also defeat a few high profile opponents.
Bell's accomplishments has not gone unnoticed by colleges as he has been contacted by Arizona, Cal, Fresno State, Idaho, Nebraska, New Mexico, Sacramento State, San Jose State, USC, Utah, and Washington. He has not received any offers yet but has made an unofficial visit to Fresno State. His current favorites are Alabama, Nebraska, and Texas Tech. Bell has family in Alabama, is friends with current Husker DB and former James Logan alum Dejon Gomes, and Bell says that "he just likes Texas Tech." He plans to make a decision when his senior season is done.
Bell wants to attend a college that has an "interesting college atmosphere." He wants the football program to help him improve as a player and has a family environment. As a sophomore in high school, Bell had to improve by gaining weight and strength as he was undersized. He spent hours with the linemen to put on weight and to hit the gym.
His grandparents have had ill health recently. As a result, a family environment in college is important to him as it is important in his personal life.
Bell has a 2.8 GPA and scored 1400 on his latest SAT scores. He wants to major in Mechanical Engineering in college while his best subject is History in high school. Bell strives to be a better person and to learn the virtues of patience in his daily life.
His teammates gave him the nickname "HellzBellz" because it is a play on his last name of Bell, it is the name of a blitz package that the defense runs, and it is the ACDC song that the team plays when they enter the field. Expect to hear "HellzBellz" this season at James Logan and on the NCAA level in the near future.
