The 3rd Annual Bay Area Memorial Day Classic started pool play on
Saturday at City College of San Francisco. The Elite Division featured
30 teams mostly from Northern California as seeding would be determined
for bracket play on Sunday. Here are some player updates.
Spencer Rust
6-foot-9 F Monte Vista (Lakeshow Elite 17) 2014: The junior is lanky
and thin but has nice length on his perimeter shot. He passes well and
does not make bad decisions. Per his club coach, Rust has a 4.5
weighted GPA while Denver and several Ivy League programs have expressed
interest.
Temidayo Yussuf
6-foot-7 F St Joseph (Oakland Rebels 17) 2014: Yussuf plays bigger than
his height but has good bulk and can still be fairly agile. He hustles
and rebounds well. Per Yussuf, he has offers from Montana State,
Pacific, and UC Davis while Colorado State, CSU Northridge, Montana,
Northern Colorado, Santa Clara, Weber State, and Wichita State are in
contact.
Jack Gale 6-foot-5 Wing University (Bay Area Warriors 17U) 2014:
The
junior has a clean perimeter shot but needs to add a dribble drive game
or ability to create own shot. He needs to add some bulk as well. Per
his club coach, DIII programs have been inquiring.
Frankie Ferrari
5-foot-11 PG Burlingame (Lunardis 17) 2014: The junior is a fearless
scorer who is always in attack mode. He plays defense in the same
manner. Per Ferrari, several low and mid DI programs have contacted him
as he is transferring back to Burlingame from Riordan.
David
Hobbs 6-foot-5 SF Carlmont (Golden City SF) 2013: Hobbs is a heady
player who makes good decisions and displayed a nice perimeter game.
The senior played aggressively and has a good frame.
John
Robertson 6-foot-8 Post Laguna Creek (PHPS Renegades) 2015: The
sophomore has good size, length, and athleticism. He is still raw in
his all around skills but has time to develop. Robertson plans to
transfer to Laguna Creek where national prospect Malik Pope can help
spread the floor and increase exposure.
Troy Rike 6-foot-8 Post
St Ignatius (Golden City SF) 2014: The junior displayed some nice post
moves including ball fakes and a turnaround shot. His lateral footwork
and athleticism can be better but he has low college level size.
Jordan
Ratinho 6-foot-3 SG De La Salle (Greenline) 2016: The freshman has good
size and lateral movement as he was playing the shooting guard
position. He made some good inside and outside offensive moves and
displayed tough defense. The DLS prospect looks promising to develop.
Leo Smith
5-foot-10 PG Oakland Tech (Lunardis 17) 2013: Smith is a scorer who can
get to the basket aggressively but has a respectable perimeter shot.
He plays frenetically on both ends. Per Smith, he will be going to
Casper Junior College in Wyoming.
Seth Snoddy 6-foot-7 PF Lincoln
(SF Rebels 17) 2014: Snoddy has a mobile and athletic body but also
plays strong as a rebounder in the post. His perimeter game or post
game needs more options to expand his offensive skills.
Patrick Marr
6-foot-7 PF De La Salle (Greenline) 2014: Marr will be the post anchor
for next season's Spartan team. He hustles for rebounds and throws his
body around. He has good size but could add to his offensive and
perimeter skills.
Buster Souza
6-foot-6 F Acalanes (Lakeshow Elite 17) 2014: The junior is an
undersized power forward but hustles and rebounds tenaciously. He needs
to add to his offensive and perimeter skills. Per his club coach, DII
schools have expressed interest.
Christian Munoz 6-foot-6 SF
Cordova (PHPS Renegades) 2014: Munoz has good size and mobility at his
position as he rebounds well and hustles. He has a respectable midrange
game as well.
Anthony Townes
6-foot-6 SF Modesto Christian (Oakland Soldiers 17 Blue) 2015: The
sophomore has good size and length for the forward position. He is
active and athletic. Adding to his perimeter skills and some low post
moves would help round out his skill set.
Ian Miller 6-foot-7 PF
Sheldon (PHPS Elite) 2016: Miller is an interesting inside-outside
player as he could score by both methods. He displayed good lateral
movement and agility. The freshman looks to be a face up type of
player.
